Investment Thesis

I angel invest in the friends & family rounds of startups in “core” industries that are fundamental to a good life, such as healthcare, financial services, education, real estate, and enterprise technologies that improve our life at work.

I believe that un- or under-served consumers and enterprises are massive untapped markets, and that technology can be a driving force to democratize access to products and services for these segments.

I also invest in the consumerization of enterprise, and I mean it not in the way that it is frequently used where it refers to bottom-up adoption and land and expand business models. I get excited about companies that drive more value to end users in legacy industries, either through disruptive or sustaining innovation.

Some thematic areas that I have looked at (and invested in) include:

  • Enterprise software for freelancers, contingent workers, and SMBs (insurance, healthcare, HR, legal, etc.)

  • Collaboration tools for blue collar & frontline workers

  • Skilled labor marketplaces

  • Emerging technologies applied to legacy industries

  • Full stack companies trying to displace legacy companies

  • Improving healthcare delivery for women and elderly

  • Financial products and services designed for the lower/middle class and SMBs

The unicorns of yesterday were built off of concentration of wealth, opportunity, and resources. The unicorns of tomorrow will be built off of redistribution of wealth, opportunity, and resources - and we’re just in the beginning of this transition.

If this sounds like something you’re working on, it’s never too early to get in touch, even if you’re just ideating and looking to do a whiteboarding sesh.
